So, how do we listen actively?

  • Pay Full Attention: Focus entirely on the speaker, avoiding distractions such as phones or multitasking.

  • Reflecting and Paraphrasing: Repeat what you’ve heard from the speaker in your own words to confirm understanding.

  • Provide Feedback: Use verbal and non-verbal cues, such as nodding or saying "I see," to show engagement.

  • No judgment: Listen without forming an immediate opinion or interrupting the speaker. Provide a safe space for the speaker to feel respected and fully express themselves.

  • Give appropriate Response: Ask questions, offer insights, and contribute constructively to the conversation. Let the conversation not be one-sided.

  • Improved Team cohesion and collaboration: When team members feel safe and heard, they are more likely to contribute ideas and work together effectively.
